The joy of life

When you wake up in the morning, think about what a precious privilege to be alive actually is – to breathe, to think, to rejoice, to love. – Marcus Aurelius ……

The train wagon swayed back and forth, the wheels whistled more than ever. Outside the window, a cold winter reigned, and the gloomy bay that the train passed by looked more like a yawning depth. The wagon was full of frozen, self-absorbed, bored passengers. Good morning!
Suddenly, a little boy pushed his way through the many adults who just didn’t like to dodge. While his father remained near the door, the boy sat by the window, surrounded by not very friendly adults poisoned by the morning. Brave baby, I thought. When the train entered the tunnel, something completely unexpected and strange happened. The little boy slid off his seat and put his hand on my knee. For a short time I thought she wanted to walk past me and go back to her father, so I moved a bit. But instead of passing, he reached out and tilted his head towards me. He probably wants to tell me something, probably. Children! I bent down to listen to him. Besides again! He kissed my cheek tenderly instead.
He then returned to his seat, leaning back and glancing happily out the window. But I’m in shock. What’s the matter? A child who gives kisses to unknown adults on the train? To my astonishment the boy went on to kiss all my neighbors.
We looked at his father questioningly nervous and taken aback. ‘He was seriously ill and now he is just happy to be alive,’ said the father.
The train stopped, the father and son got off and disappeared into the crowd. The door closed. I still feel a child’s kiss on my face – a kiss that made my soul think. How many adults kiss each other just for the sheer joy of being alive? How many of them will even think what a privilege it is? What would happen if we all started being ourselves?
The little boy kindly gave us a serious lesson: not to let die before our hearts stop beating! tho Dag Retsö

Nothing amazing happens during most of our life. If we don’t like getting up in the morning, working, finishing work and sitting down to eat with family or friends, then there is a fairly high probability that we will not be too happy. If we are happy or unhappy just because of particularly significant occasions such as a new job, a big bunch of money, a flawless happy marriage or a trip to Paris, we will not be happy for most of our lives. If, on the other hand, luck depends on a good breakfast, flowers in the garden, a drink or an afternoon nap, then we will happily be much more often. tho Andy Rooney

When you get up in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for having strength. Thank you for your food and for the joy of life. If you don’t know what to say thank you for, the fault lies with you. tho tecumseh
