Matthew 1

The Gospel of Matouš with short comments for a better understanding

The Gospel was written by Matthew one of the 12 apostles, the former tax collector and the companion of Jesus.

In addition to the fact that Matouš appoints himself in Chapter 10 in verse 3, we have this information from the early Christian bishop Papias of Hierapolis, who was born around 65 and was in direct Contact with the apostle John and others who personally heard from the apostles.

Matouš is the first book of the New Testament and begins with perhaps a dull family tree for us. But Matouš had an important mission. He wrote to his Jewish fellow citizens and tried to explain to them something that was very important to them, namely that Jesus came from the family and thus, from this legal position, had the right to the throne of Israel!

Matouš Chapter 1

Messiah’s Family Tree Abbreviated

The family tree of Jesus extends through David to Abraham. Abraham had Isaac as his son. Isaac had Jacob, he had Judah and his brothers, Judas had Peres and Zerach as their sons – their mother was Tamar. Next came Chesrón, Ram, Aminadab, Nachshon, Salmón, Boaz, Obed (his mother was Ruth), Yishaj, King David, Solomon (his mother was Bathsheba), then there was Rechabeam, Abiyam, Asa, Joshaphat, Jorama, Uzijah, Jotam, Ahaz, Hezkiyah, Menasha, Amon, Josiah, Jeconiah and his brothers, and then came the Babylonian captivity. After being taken to Babylon, Jeconiah, Shealtíel, Zerubábel, Abiud, Eljakim, Azór, Sádok, Achim, Eliud, Eleazar, Mattan, Jacob follow. The family tree is closed by Joseph, the husband of Mary, who was born Jesus – the Son of God. It is fourteen generations from the forefather Abraham to David, then fourteen generations from David to the Babylonian captivity and from captivity in Babylon to Christ also fourteen.

Comment: Jewry long They were expecting the Messiah and knew that they must be of the family of David, that was vitally important! So this family tree proves that Jesus was and is indeed a king, the long-awaited Messiah of Israel, the Messiah from the family of David. God with us, or Immanuel in Hebrew, which is an important statement about his divinity.

Question: Joseph was not Jesus’ biological father, how can this family tree apply to Jesus? unabled According to Jewish law, the adopted son has the legal status of his father, he has at least all the legal rights of his father. Therefore, the genealogy proves that Jesus had the right to the throne of Israel from this legal position.

The family tree of Mary can be found in Luke 3:23-28. This family tree also goes over David’s Line, but instead of Solomon, he leads through another of David’s sons – Nathan. https://www.gotquestions.org/Mary-lineage.html

Matouš 1 by verse 18

The angel appears to Joseph

With the birth of Jesus Christ, it was like this: Jesus’ Mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph. However, before they got married, it turned out that she would be a mother. Josef was a considerate man and did not want to expose Maria to public shame, so he decided to break up with her. When he thought about it, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said:

‘Joseph, Son of David, do not be afraid to marry Mary. What was conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. free his people from the power of evil. these events will be fulfilled pa prophet Isaiah: ’Hear! A virgin will be pregnant and will give birth to a son. You will call him Immanuel, that is: God is with us.’ ”

When Joseph woke up, he did everything as God’s messenger commanded him and married Mary. But he did not live with her married until the time when a son was born to her, whom he named Jesus.

Comment: Jesus did not fulfill only 48 specifically Messianic prophecies. In fact, he fulfilled more than 324 individual prophecies related to the Messiah. According to Mathematics professor and Westmont College President Peter Stoner, the chances of a person accomplishing even just eight prophecies are 1 in almost 10 trillion!
