There were two babies in the mother’s womb. One asked the other, ‘Do you believe in life after childbirth?’ The second replied: ‘Well, of course. There must be something after the birth. Maybe we’re here to prepare for what happens next.’ ‘Nonsense,’ said the first. ‘There is no life after giving birth. What would it even look like?’
The second replied, ‘I don’t know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we’ll walk on our feet and eat with a meringue. Maybe we’ll have more senses than we can imagine now.’
The first objected: ‘That’s crazy. Walking is impossible. And eating with a meringue? What is an idea? After all, the umbilical cord nourishes us and takes care of everything we need. But it’s very short. Life after childbirth is logically excluded.’
The second one insisted: ‘I think there will definitely be something and maybe it will be completely different from here. Maybe we won’t need the physical umbilical cord anymore.’
The first says: ‘Nonsense. And besides, if life exists then, why hasn’t anyone come back from here yet? Childbirth is the end of life and after childbirth there is nothing but darkness, silence and oblivion. There will simply be nothing.’
‘Well, I don’t know,’ says the other, ‘but we’ll definitely meet mom and she’ll take care of us.’
‘Mom? Do you really believe in mom? It’s comical. If mom exists, where is she right now?’
The other says: ‘She is all around us. We are surrounded by her. We are in her and we live thanks to her. Without her, this world of ours would not exist.’
The first says: ‘Well, I don’t see her, so it’s quite clear that she doesn’t exist.’
To the latter, she replied, ‘Sometimes when you are really quiet, you concentrate and listen carefully, you will feel her presence and hear her loving voice speaking to us down from above.’
