Jesus tells parable of the wedding feast

Jesus told them another story: ‘When God offers participation in his kingdom, he is like a king who prepared a great feast at the wedding of his Son.’ Once with a message: ‘A rich feast is prepared for you, come!’ But the invitees did not take it seriously at all. And they killed a few. This angered the king, sent the army, had the cruels slayed and the city burned. Then he said to his messengers: ‘The feast is ready, but the wedding guests were not there worthy. Go to the crossroads and invite everyone you meet to the wedding.’ So the messengers went and brought all the ones they found, poor and decent, so the wedding hall was filled. When he entered To welcome the guests, the king saw one who did not accept the wedding clothes. He said to him: ‘Man, how did you dare to enter without a wedding dress?’ He was silent. The king then ordered the servants: ‘Birp him and throw him out into the darkness where there will be only lamentation and suffering.

Many are invited, but those who actually enter are few.’ ‘

Comment: The king is the god who invited the Jews to his kingdom first, but many of them (like their religious leaders) did not accept his invitation.

This is a wedding reception – the wedding dinner of the lamb (Revelation 19:6-9). It will be a big party in heaven right after Jesus’ second return.

Jesus is the bridegroom and the believers are his bride. But how was the guest dressed? He didn’t have wedding clothes. Wedding clothing here symbolizes salvation. Only people who accept Jesus as their Savior can enter heaven.

We can invite people to this feast too. Many are invited – God loves everyone and invites everyone and would like to spend eternity with them in heaven. Nevertheless, he gave us free will to decide whether we want to go there or not. God does not drive anyone out of heaven, they themselves choose not to go there!

Paying the tax

The Pharisees gathered to agree on a tactic to catch Jesus in a trap. They wanted to provoke him into words, which they could then use for indictment. They sent their disciples to him along with Herod’s followers, and they said: ‘Master, we know that you are honest and that you are truthfully teaching the way to God, regardless of the status tax?’ But Jesus saw through their evil intention. ‘You hypocrites!’ he exclaimed. ‘Why are you trying to catch me with such questions? Show me a coin!” They handed him a denarius. ‘Whose image and name is stamped on it?’ ‘Císar,’ they replied. He said to them: ‘So what is the emperor’s, give to the emperor, and what is God, give to God.’ Surprised by the answer, they left.

Comment: I will never cease to be amazed by Jesus’ wisdom. We can also say about her: Jacob 1:5 says: If one of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, and he will give it to him – after all, he is generous to all and without reservations!

Resurrection

He was also visited by the Sadducees, who claim that the resurrection from the dead is impossible. They presented him with an improbable story: “Master, in Moses’ law we read that the free brother-in-law is obliged to marry his brother’s childless widow in order to keep his brother’s name in the children. case:

There were seven brothers. The first of them married and then died childless, so his wife became the wife of the other brother. This brother also died childless, so it was repeated for the second, the third – and finally with all seven brothers. The last of all the woman also died. Which of those brothers will it belong to after the resurrection? After all, she was the wife of all seven!” Jesus answered: ‘You speak nonsense, because you know neither the Scripture nor the power of God. After the resurrection, the people do not marry or marry, but are like angels in heaven. (B21)

But as for the resurrection from the dead – have you not read how God said to you: ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob’? (Exodus 3:6) He is not the god of the dead, but the living!’ And when the crowds heard it, they marveled at his teachings.

Comment: The main statement in this passage is: He is not the god of the dead, but of the living! As we have already read in Chapter 17 in verse 3 when Jesus talked with Moses and Elijah.

the most important commandment

The Pharisees heard how Jesus silenced Sadducei. They commissioned one of their scriptures to try it out:

‘Master, which commandment is most important in the law?’

Jesus answered him: ‘Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, soul and mind.’ This is the first and most important commandment. The second in order of importance is this: ‘Love your neighbor as alone himself.’ On the two commandments stand the entire law of Moses and the legacy of the prophets.”

Comment: This is the most important passage of the whole chapter and maybe even the whole of Matthew!

What is the greatest commandment? – Love God!

And the second most important? – love others!

This is where all the laws in the Old Testament are fulfilled (-The Law of Moses and the Prophets). Because if we love God and others, we will not steal, kill, lie or do other similar things.

Religious leaders cannot answer Jesus’ question

Then Jesus, surrounded by the Pharisees, asked them: ‘What do you think of Christ? Whose is the Son?’ They replied, ‘David’s.’ He said: ‘How could David call his own descendant the Lord? After all, on the initiative of the Holy Spirit, he writes about him in the Psalm:’ ’God said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies at your feet.’ (Psalm 110:1) So if David calls him his master, how can he be his son?’

No one could answer that and they didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.

Comment: So this is a prophecy about Jesus.
