Although it is not possible to verify every event in the Bible, Archaeological discoveries since the mid-19th century have demonstrated the reliability and credibility of the biblical narrative. We agreed that at 9 p.m. I would arrive on this big ship with another ship. The ship that had to be checked is 45 meters long and the four meters of the hull are below the surface of the water.
Before leaving, I finished all the work I had at home, prayed, got dressed warmly and set off. I arrived at the pier and took a boat down the river to look for the big ship. It was already around ten o’clock in the evening and it was very dark. I was in the captain’s cabin of a small boat when I finally saw the big ship I was looking for. To my dismay, she quickly headed straight for us on the inevitable collision course! The only thought I had time to think about was: ‘Thy will be done, God!’.
We collided and I was immediately thrown out of the boat. Jesus must have guided me, even though I found myself in great depth and heard how close the ship’s bolts of the great ship were passing me, but he kept me close to the side of the ship.
When I surfaced, I called out to God. I didn’t have the strength anymore and I couldn’t breathe, but I knew it was helping me! I looked around. It was very dark and there was no one around. I was right in the middle of the Amur River. (Note: Amur is one of the great rivers in the world, with a length of 1,600 km it forms the border between Russia and China.)
I thought, “What next, God?
I got the answer: call for help. I couldn’t breathe and I didn’t have much voice left, but I started screaming for help as loud as I could, and I kept wondering: Who will hear me? Finding in the darkness of a person on the water is like looking for a needle in a haystack… But if Jesus said I should do it, my job was only to obey.
I later found out that after the ship hit our boat, it turned to the right and got stuck on the sand lane. My call was heard and I was transferred to the ship! Everyone was looking at me with wide eyes because they didn’t expect to see someone who survived. I didn’t have any injuries, I didn’t even catch a cold that winter. One man said, ‘You are alive. I would die of a heart attack if I were you!’
I replied: ‘If God hadn’t been with me, I certainly wouldn’t have been here!’ Praise God for his miracles!
