Kirk was known for his frequent debates with students on university campuses. He strongly defended freedom of expression in universities and sharply criticized discrimination against Christians and gender ideology.

When he was 18, he founded Turning Point USA To promote conservative values among young people. Turning Point USA is the largest and fastest growing conservative youth activist organization in the country.

What was Charlie’s motivation?

Kirk made no secret of his Christian faith – he spoke openly about it on social networks, in interviews and during his previous appearances at universities. About a week before his death, he wrote an optimistic post on the network X regarding the ‘revival of Christianity’: ‘Churchs are growing. Young people flock to believe in God. You don’t want to live in an unchristian country. Even the most ardent atheists or Agnostics are blessed with the influence of the Church.’

Bishop Robert Barron said of Kirk: ‘He was a really great debater and also one of the best supporters of the civic discussion in our country, but above all he was a passionate Christian.’

Kirk described himself as a deeply religious evangelical Christian. He encouraged his supporters to follow God, enter into marriage young, soon have children and prioritize family over others. He emphasized Judeo-Christian values. He spoke regularly at Dream City Church in Phoenix. He also supported the teaching of Christianity in schools.

He gradually developed his faith as a Christian nationalist. He began to have more radical views regarding the faith in 2019. …Kirk began to criticize the separation of church and state and secularism. In 2024 he said: ‘One of the reasons why we are experiencing a constitutional crisis is that we no longer have a Christian nation, but we have a Christian form of government, and that is incompatible. You cannot have freedom unless you have a Christian population. At one of Donald Trump’s pre-election meetings, he said: ‘This is a Christian state. I wish it would stay that way.

controversial

Kirk’s controversial statements about abortion, feminism and the LGBTQ community also came from traditionalist and conservative Christian values. He promoted the importance of marriage and family, which also responded to the decline in the birth rate, which he related to the claim that young women prefer career over family. He was of the opinion that ‘having children’ is more valuable than ‘having a career’.

Kirk was also not afraid to criticize the mainstream media and join cultural wars on various topics. He was also a proud advocate of controversial views regarding the conflict in Gaza and various other topics.

‘We want to transform culture,’ Kirk said in February in the New York Times.
